Helene has tutored students from public and private elementary, middle, and high schools in East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, Sag Harbor, Wainscott, Sagaponack, Bridgehampton, Southampton, Westhampton, Southold, and New York City. In addition, she has tutored college students from as far away as Hawaii and Germany via remote Zoom classes.

It's never too late to seek a tutor who can change the trajectory of a student’s educational experience from low self-esteem and failure to self-confidence and success in being an independent learner.

EDUCATOR

Helene’s passion for teaching inspires her students’ willingness to learn and experience new ideas. Teaching in alternative schools in Eugene, Oregon and Bridgehampton, New York and in public schools in Sag Harbor, East Hampton, and Montauk, New York, she has shared her humanity with each of her students. As the director and founder of The Pioneer School in the late 1990s, she became known as a reading whisperer, often taking a student 3-to-5 reading levels in one year. Her explicit, sequential, structured, multi-sensory, language-based reading program works.

“All my students learn to read and write and discover that books are friends. How awesome is that? Many of us take these skills for granted, but to be able to read and write represents freedom to live a life with dignity and respect.”
